OH OF COURSE honestly its not much and i havent finished the game yet so there’s probably a lot more to dissect.

BUT when i got to the section where kratos first gets the spear it struck me that it’s the first weapon kratos has gotten thats wholly his own in years. the blades of chaos were symbols of his servitude to ares, their power conditional. all the other weapons like the blade of olympus or the many others received in gow 1-3 were made by other gods for their own purposes. the leviathan axe was faye’s weapon, and a symbol many continue to recognize her by.

but the spear is his! it’s terrifically greek. his own blood is the banner. it was made out of love for his son, and it’s creation would have been impossible without the help of the new family he’s found.

the draupnir spear was made with the intent to kill. kratos was raised a spartan soldier. he was honed into a weapon by ares. he has been used for hurt and bloodshed nearly his entire life.

but he’s been able to change. he’s been able to recognize his own pain, and use the power forged from that hate to love anew. he decides to use the spear to find his own path. the weapon made for war will be used to protect.
